Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT) – Which is Right For You?

The right equipment is necessary for any job to get it done efficiently and safely. Since there is not much to think about choosing a China load haul dump other than capacity; however, there are two types that need to be considered. By knowing vehicle types and their correct usages, it is possible to make wise decisions.

Dump Truck Differences

Demand and relevant technological advancements in the construction industry have triggered changes in various equipment and dump trucks are no exception. Before acquiring one, you have now two different choices; each excels in different working environments.

Rigid Dump Trucks (RDT) –

These trucks are standard comprising chassis and one-unit vehicle body. Most units contain dual axles in their rear while many have three. Those in excess of three axles are not normally seen on construction sites as they have poor handling ability.

Most traditional dump trucks can get in and out with loads. Also, they are suitable to drive on highways and roads. Typically, RDT’s have a massive load capacity of the two types and is efficient for long-run hauling as it can carry more load with each trip.

The major restriction regarding a rigid trucks is that they are just rigid. You cannot use this truck at sites with more than 10 degrees grade or any other difficult driving conditions. 

Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT) –

These units are offered by utility vehicle manufacturers with advanced designs to tackle a complex work site. They are manufactured with two to three rear axles to carry load handling. However, ADTs have an articulated hitch between the body and the cab. This allows them to freely turn while loaded. ADTs are useful on graded or rough terrain and in bad weather or muddy conditions where a rigid truck can’t go.

Cabs of an ADT can be functioned up to a 45-degree angle from the body, which makes an allowance to be tight turning radius like a vehicle size. By all-wheel drive, they are massive for work sites that demand serious navigation and have heavy mud conditions, hills, and other hurdles to get through.

ADT’s are easily maneuverable load haul dumps which also means they are not made as large as similar-sized RDTs. They are 4-feet less wide for easy usage; however, it has restricted load volume.

Final Verdict

On a job site, time is money. Thus, efficiency is crucial. When it comes to efficiency, ADT is right up there.

To select the right ADT, you have to determine what type of terrain will be traversed and how far you can have to drive the load and what material is needed to be carried.

Long hauling distances are less efficient with an ADT due to smaller capacity. However, in a few cases, it is unavoidable if an ADT is required at difficult work sites.
